Rising Damp Specialists in Westcliff - Treatment & Cost

What is Rising Damp?

Rising Damp is not the most common form of dampness found in buildings, but older buildings tend to be affected by rising damp to some extent. The rising damp occurs when water rises up through the bricks and mortar of a building by a process, which is termed 'capillarity' or 'wicking'.

The height that the water rises to is heavily dependent on several factors, including the pore structure of the bricks, mortar and the rate of evaporation. This is caused by a lack of backup to the vertical movement of the moisture through the masonry. Since 1875, it has been compulsory for homes to be built damp proofed; therefore, if the building pre-dates this, then your property can be susceptible to rising damp.

Over time this damp proofing can become ineffective and the resistance to the damp will slowly diminish. Rising damp is easily spotted in your home, if you live in westcliff and are experiencing this problem we can help. It will generally leave tide marks on your walls. These marks are generally caused by chloride and nitrate despots that are left in the wall and plaster, as the dampness in the wall evaporates.

Anglian Preservation seeks to identify the areas, which need to be targeted for damp proofing. By undertaking a thorough assessment of your property, we can choose the subsequent course of action. As well as getting to the route of the issue, we can offer cosmetic reconstruction for the areas that have been affected by the damp. It requires specialist re-plastering to ensure that the areas is efficiently covered and will not be affected by the moisture as much in the future.
